Citrus College governing board installs returning trustees
During the December organizational meeting, trustees were also elected to leadership positions for 2023.
Local community leaders Dr. Anthony Contreras and Cheryl Alexander have been sworn in as members of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees after filling these roles on a provisional basis.
Dr. Contreras was appointed to represent trustee area 1 following the resignation of Dr. Barbara R. Dickerson in September 2020. He has provisionally served Azusa and portions of Duarte since October 2020 and will continue to do so after running unopposed in the November 2022 election.
Dr. Contreras was sworn in as a member of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees during a regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 17.

"I have had the privilege of working alongside the dedicated members of the Citrus College community," Dr. Contreras said. "Together, we have overcome obstacles, navigated changes and experienced success. I am excited to continue this great work in the years ahead."
After serving provisionally for one year, Cheryl Alexander was sworn in as a member of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees during the board's annual reorganization meeting on Dec. 14, 2022.

Following the 2021 passing of longtime trustee Dr. Edward C. Ortell, Alexander was appointed to complete the remainder of a four-year term that ended on Dec. 9. In November, voters elected her to continue representing trustee area 3, which includes Duarte and portions of Azusa, Monrovia, Arcadia, Covina and Irwindale.
"I have enjoyed getting to know the needs within the district," Alexander said. "I am grateful to everyone who voted, and I am looking forward to using the knowledge I gained over the past year to be a voice for the students and families in our community."
Both Dr. Contreras and Alexander will serve four-year terms that will conclude in December 2026.
"The campus community is pleased that Trustee Contreras and Trustee Alexander are continuing their tenures on the board of trustees," said Dr. Greg Schulz, superintendent/president of Citrus College. "Through their service to the college and their respective communities, both individuals have demonstrated a talent for collaboration and a keen understanding of the need to form meaningful relationships in the region. I am certain that their election to the board will be beneficial to the college and its students."
During the December organizational meeting, trustees were also elected to the following positions for the period from Dec. 15, 2022 through Dec. 14, 2023: Laura J. Bollinger will serve as board president; Dr. Contreras will serve as vice president; and Dr. Patricia A. Rasmussen will serve as board clerk/secretary.
"I am looking forward to working alongside my fellow board members in the months ahead as we continue to do all we can to help Citrus College students reach their academic and professional goals," Bollinger said.
