Which band do you think when you think of the quintessential California band? Did the Greatful Dead cross your mind?

Well, according to Business Insider, the Dead is the most famous band to come out of California.

The business magazine looked at record sales, reputation and awards to determine its ranking.

No doubt the Grateful Dead have their following. Hundreds still show up to their concerts every year despite front man Jerry Garcia having been dead for quite some time.

But surely Metalicca, the Eagles, Beach Boys, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and a few others have more name recognition?

No one can deny the fanatical devotion of Deadheads. Perhaps that’s what Business Insider based its decision on.
