PTK honors society recognizes Citrus College superintendent/president

Citrus College superintendent/president, Greg Schulz, Ed.D., is among a select group of community college administrators throughout the nation who were recently recognized by Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the premier international national honor society for two-year college students.

According to PTK, 28 honorees were selected to receive a Paragon Award for New Presidents last month. Given to presidents, chancellors and CEOs who have served on their campuses for less than three years, more than 400 individuals were eligible for the 2023 recognition. Dr. Schulz was one of only three award recipients from California.

"While you were nominated for this award by the highest-achieving students on your campus, this award is really about your commitment to the success of all students," wrote Lynn Tincer-Ladner, PTK president and chief executive officer, in an email to Dr. Schulz. "[Citrus College students] know you are working hard to provide them more opportunities and stronger pathways to completion, transfer and employment."

Every year, the Paragon Award for New Presidents is presented to community college presidents who have demonstrated outstanding student support by recognizing academic achievement, leadership and service. Members and advisors of Beta Nu Eta, the Citrus College chapter of PTK, nominated Dr. Schulz for the honor because of his efforts to connect with students, as well as his outstanding leadership style.

"Nominating Dr. Schulz was an incredibly easy decision. Our students see Dr. Schulz in action around campus and recognize his support of our chapter's service to the college and the community," said Citrus College student Jessie San, president of Beta Nu Eta. "We knew he would be selected to receive the award because he has done everything possible to support students. We have met with him, talked with him, watched him support our athletic teams, visit classes, attend Club Rush and so much more. He always visits students throughout campus and tries to get to know us personally. This is definitely a well-deserved honor."

Dr. Schulz received his award during Catalyst, the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society's annual convention taking place in Columbus, Ohio, in late April.

"Being nominated for the Paragon Award for New Presidents by Citrus College's PTK students is very meaningful for me. While I am honored to receive this award, I know it is an accomplishment I did not achieve alone," said Dr. Schulz. "I share this recognition with the entire campus community and thank them for their efforts to support, mentor and inspire our students every day."

"I feel incredibly fortunate to lead our campus community as superintendent/president and to work with a team of faculty and staff each day that I love and admire," he added. "I look forward to strengthening my connections with Beta Nu Eta and our other student groups in the future."
