GLENDORA, CA — A woman was struck and killed by the trailer of a big rig truck early Monday morning after she walked into oncoming traffic on the 210 Freeway in Glendora.

The woman has not been identified pending next-of-kin notification by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office, and no one else was injured in the incident, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Chen.

Police responded to the freeway, just east of Glendora Avenue, around 12:50 a.m., Chen said. A woman had been walking along the right shoulder of the westbound 210 Freeway when she wandered into the path of an approaching big rig.

“The big rig driver tried to swerve out of the way but the trailer did strike the pedestrian,” Chen said. “The driver did pull over to the shoulder and called 911.”

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities closed the freeway’s three leftmost lanes for several hours for their investigation, according to Chen.

He added that officers with the Glendora Police Department initially believed the woman may have had a gunshot wound but, “it was just the injuries she sustained as a result of colliding with the trailer from the big rig.”
