HALF MOON BAY, CA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

How do you know the local hero?

Performed wildlife rescues with her husband

What does the local hero do?

She lives in a home facing Pillar Point Harbor. She and her husband monitor the resident harbor seal and California sea lion population near their house and rescue marine mammals and seabirds on land and via boat, kayak and paddle board(!). She is also a volunteer naturalist at Ano Nuevo State Park.

Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?

She and her husband save dozens of lives each year.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?

She is Dr. Seuss’ “unless”
