Here are the top 3 stories today in Healdsburg:

  1. Healdsburg winery Quivira Vineyards is up for sale, according to a listing that appeared on Redfin yesterday. The 85-acre property is located at 4900 West Dry Creek Rd., right near Lambert Bridge and Rafanelli Winery. It's listed at $24 million. Here's what you get for that price, according to listing agent Jeffrey Bounsall at Coldwell Banker Realty: "25,000 case winery permit and open to the public testings. Delight in our renowned Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, and Rhone varietals, meticulously nurtured on 62 certified organic vineyard acres. Experience the seamless fusion of extraordinary taste and environmental responsibility. Quivira Vineyards beckons you to embark on a journey to unparalleled quality and eco-conscious living. Your gateway to sustainable luxury and globally recognized excellence awaits. Five APN's. Half Mile Dry Creek frontage. Wine Creek-Coho and Steelhead restoration project runs through the ranch." And here's some more info on Quivera from the winery's website: "Quivira was founded in 1981 by Holly and Henry Wendt, who were drawn to Dry Creek Valley’s unspoiled rural character and rich history of winegrape growing that is among the longest in California. In 2006, Pete and Terri Kight purchased Quivira from the Wendts. Since 1998, Quivira has been actively engaged in restoring Wine Creek, the Coho salmon and Steelhead trout spawning stream that winds through the center of the estate. The iconic 140-year-old Fig Tree has been preserved as a landmark. Quivira’s estate includes a lush organically farmed garden designed to educate visitors and promote biodiversity. The garden’s 100+ raised beds are planted to exceptional heritage cultivars of various produce."(Redfin & Quivira)

  2. And another major local vineyard was just purchased for $8.1 million on the other end of town, according to the Wine Business trade mag: The Soracco family has sold their 81-acre vineyard at 3714 Westside Rd. after nearly a century of running it themselves. This, after Jack Soracco and his wife, Sharon, reportedly died in 2022 within weeks of one another. "The buyer is C and F Company LLC, a Sonoma-based company, according to the deed filed Sept. 6 with Sonoma County," the magazine reports. "C and F Company’s manager and CEO is Mark Couchman, according to California Secretary of State business records." More from the story: "The property, a former prune orchard off of Westside Road, includes 69 acres of planted vineyards as well as a farmhouse, a barn and a staging area, according to the real estate website. The vineyard is planted in Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyard, known as Valley View Ranch, has 'tremendous water, soils and spectacular views' of the Russian River Valley, Mount St. Helena and Fitch Mountain, said Will Lance, Realtor with W Real Estate. The Soraccos, who are based on Grant Road, are longtime Russian River Valley grape growers. The late John “Jack” Soracco and his brother, “Robert” Bob Soracco, began to convert their prune orchards to vineyards in the 1970s, according to Bob Soracco’s 2002 obituary." (WineBusiness.com)
  3. A post-pandemic dance group in Healdsburg called "Ballet Folclórico Comunitario Yolotl" has grown to around 55 members of all ages from across Sonoma County, under the guidance of local "dancer, community advocate and ballet folklórico instructor" Yolanda Girón, according to a new profile on the group in the Press Democrat. Girón, who hails from Oaxaca, "considers it a kind of therapy for everyone — just as it’s been therapeutic for her and helped her grow," the PD reports. Shani Garcia, the mother of three girls in the group, says: “I’ve liked it, because [my daughters] have become uninhibited. They’re friendlier, more disciplined." She adds that they've "also grown closer to one another and she appreciates the mutual support the group’s members have for each other." More from the story: "Students of all backgrounds learn about Mexican culture, history, geography, and for Garcia’s daughters, about their roots. Girón embraces people from all cultures, whether they’ve danced in a ballet folklórico or not. She repeatedly underscores a word in its name: 'comunitario,' Spanish for 'community.' Dancing is for everyone, she said. 'That’s my objective, that anybody who wants to participate, participates — that they feel part of a group — and more than anything, they don’t forget their culture,' she said. 'Honoring your culture is a way of strengthening your connection with yourself, which helps you connect to the wider community better,' she said." (Press Democrat; paywall)
