LA County Unemployment Rate Refuses to Budge
With a flood of college graduates entering the workforce, unemployment figures hold steady.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County held steady at 7.6 percent in May compared to the previous month, the state Employment Development Department reported today.
The 7.6 percent rate was well below the 8.3 percent rate from May 2014.
In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the unemployment rate was 4.2 percent, up slightly from 4.1 percent in April.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for California was 6.4 percent in May, up from 6.3 percent in April and below the 7.6 percent rate in May 2014. The comparable estimates for the nation were 5.5 percent in May, 5.4 percent in April and 6.3 percent a year ago.
According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment increased in Los Angeles County by 3,400 jobs between April and May to reach more than 4.3 million.

The educational and health services sector posted the largest month-over- month gain, adding 6,000 jobs, according to the EDD.
About 387,000 people were unemployed in May in Los Angeles County, which has a workforce of about 5 million.
