Heather McPherson, Director of Advancement, tells Patch about how this progressive elementary helps teach young children.

Learn more about the Children’s Community School from Heather McPherson, Director of Advancement. This private school has offered children education programs for over 30 years.

  1. What is your school best known for?
Progressive education (no tests, grades or textbooks) for a socio-economically diverse student body.

  2. What is your favorite school event of the year?
The PanDerby - it’s our Spring fundraiser where all the children make their own Pinewood Derby car - no rules and no competition though so anything goes and the students are incredibly creative!

  3. If you were to have an indulgent snack somewhere in town, where would it be and what would you have?
My indulgence would be a delightful cocktail at The Village in Studio City.

  4. What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
When you’re making a decision and you find yourself swinging back and forth between choices, that means you are really considering all the options instead of just forging ahead without consideration.

  5. What advice would you give others in your position?
We need to remain compassionate to parents and how difficult parenting is in our current culture.

  6. What’s the school’s teaching philosophy?
Children’s Community School is a progressive school dedicated to teaching children to think for themselves, collaborate successfully with others and take responsibility for their own education.

  7. How can parents contact you for more information?
Email me at [email protected] or call (818) 780-6226.
