10-Car Pileup Involving Wrong-Way Driver Prompts 101 SigAlert

Several lanes of the 101 (Hollywood) Freeway were backed up Monday afternoon following a pileup that left three people hospitalized.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — A wrong-way driver triggered a pileup on the Hollywood (101) Freeway Monday that injured three people and caused major backups on the 101 Freeway near Sunset Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP issued a SigAlert for the northbound side of the freeway, where three lanes were closed until about 1:30 p.m.

The crash was reported just before noon. Witnesses reported seeing a driver heading southbound in the northbound lanes shortly before the crash near Sunset Boulevard. About 10 vehicles were involved in the pileup, the CHP reported.

Three people were hospitalized. Their injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
