Brutal Assault Shown In TMZ Video Helps LAPD ID, Arrest Suspect: Police

A violent Hollywood Boulevard assault captured on video that was shared by TMZ helped detectives locate the suspect, police said.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — A man accused of a brutal assault on Hollywood Boulevard was arrested this week after police identified him in part due to video of the violent incident that was distributed by the media, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers and paramedics responded to the 6700 block of Hollywood Boulevard, a few blocks east of Highland Avenue, Monday at 2:15 a.m., where they found a man described as "severely injured." The man was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for several injuries, police said.

A video of the incident obtained by TMZ shows a brutal fight between the two men, which involved the suspect pepper spraying the victim and knocking him to the ground. The suspect continued to punch the victim while he was lying unconscious on the ground, police said.

Detectives were able to locate additional videos of the incident that helped lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect, police said.

On Wednesday afternoon, detectives located the suspect in the Hollywood area and took him into custody. Jorge Luiz Garcia, 27, of Los Angeles, was booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

The case will be presented to the District Attorney's Office for filing consideration, police said.
