Fire In Los Feliz Spreads From Yard To Garage And Adjacent House: LAFD

A greater alarm fire began outside and spread to two nearby structures Wednesday afternoon.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Firefighters battled a greater alarm fire in Los Feliz Wednesday evening that began as as vegetation fire and soon spread to a detached garage and a portion of a home on an adjacent street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to 4535 Melbourne Avenue, off Hillhurst Avenue, Wednesday at about 4:45 p.m. It took 81 firefighters 37 minutes to access, confine and fully extinguish the fire, the LAFD said.

The fire began when vegetation caught fire. It soon spread to a garage on Melbourne Avenue and a two-story duplex on Russell Avenue, which runs parallel to Melbourne.

A large plume of dark smoke was visible throughout the neighborhood as police shut down Melbourne Avenue and the adjacent Rodney Drive to allow for crews to battle the blaze.

After the smoke died down, firefighters could be scene climbing down from the roof of a building against a backdrop of a charred row of trees.
