High Winds Topple Scaffolding Into Wires On Santa Monica Boulevard

After intense winds toppled scaffolding into wires, Santa Monica Boulevard was shut down Sunday afternoon, the LAFD said.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Intense winds toppled scaffolding into wires on Santa Monica Boulevard Sunday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The scaffolding, about 4-5 stories tall outside a building at St. Andrews Place and Santa Monica Boulevard, was swept outward from the building by wind at around 2 p.m. The scaffolding was resting on wires on the north side of Santa Monica Boulevard when firefighters responded, according to the LAFD.

LAFD Urban Search and Rescue specialists were sent to the scene to assess the situation. Pedestrians and motorists were prohibited from the area due to the unstable scaffolding, which was not occupied at the time of the incident, according to the LAFD.

Santa Monica Boulevard was shut down between Wilton Place and Western Avenue for a period of time Sunday afternoon.
