HOLLYWOOD, CA — City officials this week revealed the final design for a plan to dramatically reimagine the eastern stretch of Hollywood Boulevard.

The project calls for converting a travel lane in each direction into a parking-protected bike lane between Lyman Place in the East Hollywood/Los Feliz area and Van Ness Avenue.

The plan will also see the replacement of on-street parking with a protected bike lane between Van Ness Avenue and Gower Street further west in Hollywood.

The project will link with another, similar project for the portion of Hollywood Boulevard through central Hollywood: the Hollywood Walk of Fame Project.

Officials say the new design will help reduce motorists' speed, reduce pedestrians' risk crossing the street, allow for safer turns with a center turn lane and create dedicated space for bikes and scooters that will reduce conflicts with pedestrians and motorists.

The improvements between Lyman Place and Gower Street will be completed this summer, according to city officials.

A second phase of the project, which will implement similar improvements from Lyman Place to the massive Sunset Boulevard, Hillhurst Avenue, Virgil Avenue and Sunset Drive intersection, is also in the works. Officials are working on a final design.
