HOLLYWOOD, CA — The residents of three houses in one of the Hollywood Hills' most prestigious neighborhoods were prohibited from entering their homes following a landslide this weekend, according to reports.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded Sunday to the 9200 block of Flicker Way in the Bird Streets neighborhood after learning of "hill movement," KCAL reported.

The block curves tightly around a hillside, with homes backing directly up to the hill. Aerial video from KTLA shows mud and debris slid directly into the back yards of several homes.

LA Department of Building and Safety officials red tagged three homes on the street, which means residents are not allowed to enter the premises until officials assess safety concerns, KTLA reported.

The slide happened as LA saw brief periods of rain over the weekend, which came after several more intense rainstorms earlier this year. Geologist Mike Phipps told KTLA that slides can occur months or years after a period of wet weather.

"There's a possibility of other landslides reactivating. We've seen that happen in the past, we've seen landslides start moving after a couple years of wetter-than-normal conditions. These might be landslides that are known and well-defined and they stop moving in the dry years, we had a multi-year drought, and now they might start moving again," he said.

This rainy season has brought scores of landslides to the Southland. The Rancho Palos Verdes landslide complex has been moving faster than ever before, which comes as officials have been working on a project to slow the landslide to prevent damage to roads, utilities and homes.

And infrastructure in the Malibu area has taken a beating: Several smaller landslides have closed major roads throughout the season, while Topanga Canyon Boulevard has been shut down indefinitely due to an ongoing landslide.
