Pedestrian Killed By LAPD Vehicle in 3-Car Pileup In Hollywood

The impact of the crash Monday sent a Los Angeles Police SUV careening into a pedestrian, according to authorities.

HOLLYWOOD, CA —A police vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian in Hollywood in a three-car collision that injured six other people Monday afternoon.

The other injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Investigators are working to determine what caused the crash.

"Today just before 4 p.m. officers were driving (northbound on) Gower when another vehicle driving westbound on Santa Monica when struck the police vehicle as it was in the north crosswalk of the intersection. The police vehicle then spun, striking a pedestrian," according to a written statement by the Los Angeles Police Department. "The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased. "It is still early in the investigation and the identity of the pedestrian will not be released until next of kin can be notified. The exact cause of the collision is unclear at this time."

Paramedics were called to the scene and rushed to pedestrian to a nearby hospital where the person died, according to LAFD spokesman Nicholas Prange.

Authorities did not say if the police vehicle was involved in a pursuit or responding to a call for service at the time of the crash.
