Speed Humps To Be Installed Near 8 Hollywood Schools

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Officials are targeting some of Los Angeles' deadliest streets with a plan to install speed humps near schools across the city, including eight in Hollywood.

The Hollywood schools are among 50 city wide that officials targeted for transportation safety improvements based on factors including collisions, the number of students living nearby, and the number of low-income students. All are within or near the so-called High Injury Network, a collection of streets that make up 6 percent of the city's total but account for 65 percent of its pedestrian deaths and serious injuries.

The Hollywood schools are:

• Hollywood High School, 1521 N Highland Ave.
• Selma Avenue Elementary School, 6611 Selma Ave.
• Lockwood Avenue Elementary School, 4345 Lockwood Ave.
• Lexington Avenue Primary Center, 4564 Lexington Ave.
• Grant Elementary School, 1530 N Wilton Place
• Dayton Heights Elementary School, 607 N Westmoreland Ave.
• Alexandria Avenue Elementary School, 4211 Oakwood Ave.
• Ramona Elementary School, 1133 N Mariposa Ave.

On average, each listed school will see speed humps installed on two adjacent street segments during the 2023-24 fiscal year. Transportation officials haven't yet revealed which specific segments will get the treatment.

The plan was unanimously approved by the City Council on Friday.
