  1. Last Tuesday, the HB City Council voted to receive 100% renewable energy from the Orange County Power Authority. Councilmember Erik Peterson was the single vote against this plan. β€œThe 100% Renewable Energy plan is the most expensive, costing approximately $123 per month, and will cost the city approximately $212,000 annually.” (OC Tribune)
  2. The HBPD issued a press release Thursday that discussed an arrest in a September 11 traffic fatality. It happened on PCH, south of Warner Avenue, and involved a motorcycle rider and his passenger. The passenger died. Now, the rider has been arrested for murder. The PD says that before the collision, the rider was β€œdriving the motorcycle at a high rate of speed and performing dangerous stunts, which contributed to the cause of the collision.” The suspect has been β€œcited or arrested five times for traffic-related charges” in the seven months prior to the accident.   3. Remember that the 26th annual Surf City Marathon takes place on Sunday. We previously discussed the street closures. Even if you’re not participating, come on down to cheer on the runners! (Patch, cityofhb)
  4. If you plan to apply for the OC property tax postponement program, you have until the 10th. This program is for β€œlow income seniors and disabled property owners” and allows them to defer their fiscal year 2021-22 secured property taxes on their principal residence.” However, this program does not apply to delinquent taxes of prior years.   5. Gong's Chinese Food at 6815 Warner Avenue celebrated their 44th Chinese New Year this week. The manager greeted guests with "Gong hei fat choy," which means "Happy New Year & Much Good Luck." Customers come for the great food and appreciate the Mandarin phrases the staff teaches them. (HBN)
