  1. What is killing sea lions off the CA coast? “A total of 21 teenage sea lions were found dead in February, with six washing up on the same day.” Scientists believe that a domoic acid bloom may be to blame, “as all the sea lions were found with squid in their bellies.” “Huntington Beach only lies around 5 miles away from where the sea lion strandings occurred,” which leads some to theorize that the recent oil spill may be to blame. (Newsweek)
  2. On Wednesday, the HBPD received reports of “illegal activity taking place in the Bolsa Chica Wetlands.” In response, there are more officers on patrol in the area. “If you witness non-emergency illegal activity, report using the MyHB app or by calling (714) 960-8811.” (HBPD)
  3. We learned Wednesday that the OVSD has selected Dr. Michael Conroy as the next superintendent. “Dr. Conroy served as Deputy Superintendent of the District from 2015 to 2021.” “He begins July 1, and will replace retiring superintendent, Dr. Hansen.” (@OVSDSupt, President Gina Clayton-Tarvin)
  4. You have an opportunity to participate in the Sunday Bolsa Chica State Beach cleanup event. “The cleanup will start at 1 p.m. followed by a silent disco at 3 p.m. Tunes are provided by San Diego-based artist DJ D4bblz. The public can register using a Google Form.” (HB News)
  5. Are you making lunch or dinner plans for the weekend? We have Saturday’s rankings that list the top three HB restaurants that offer water views and outdoor seating. They are Duke’s HB, Sandys Beach Shack, and Watertable. (Newsbreak)
