Good day, neighbors; today is National Tooth Fairy Day! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Huntington Beach Daily.

The desalination plant continues to be the topic of debate. Also, there is an opening at the Bolsa Chica Conservancy. Finally, horse owners should be aware of an EHV outbreak.

  1. In a Saturday report, Huntington Beach Mayor Barbara Delgleize explains that the proposed desalination plant’s “environmental benefits are substantial.” According to proponents, the use of energy is well worth the ability to say no to water transported from elsewhere. On the other side are environmentalists, who believe that HB doesn’t need this technology because the county does well with managing its water. In the meantime, we await the California Coastal Commission’s vote. (SF Gate)
  2. We learned Monday that the Bolsa Chica Conservancy is looking for an Executive Director. “This individual will be responsible for directing and managing all of the day-to-day operations of our organization.” If you have experience relevant to environmental stewardship, please apply! (HB News)
  3. There is an EHV outbreak affecting horses. As of Friday, “the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) confirmed two Orange County horses with equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1).” Officials believe that the animals picked up the virus during an event in Riverside County. (The Horse)
  4. Community groups called for OC DA Todd Spitzer’s resignation Tuesday. He is accused of saying that “he knows many Black people who get themselves out of their bad circumstances and bad situations by only dating white women.” While he would not address the protesters, he did issue a statement that said "I am not perfect, but an inartful comment during an hours-long debate in a double murder case is not reflective of my core beliefs or the years I have spent fighting to make our society more equitable and our communities safe for everyone." (ABC 7)
  5. If you haven’t signed up yet for AAA, now might be a good time. A Tuesday report says hat that SoCal resident AAA members “can now purchase a Disneyland ticket package that brings the cost to as little as $60 per day.” You could “buy a three-day, one-park-per-day ticket” for $179. Of course, you can only use the tickets on weekdays until May 26. (KTLA)
