  1. On Friday, the HBPD received reports of “a suspicious male in dark clothing” near Garfield and Ellis, as well as Edwards and Goldenwest. Officers investigated, and arrested two people. “While we do not have reason to believe there is any further public safety threat in the area, we ask that residents contact the HBPD non-emergency line if they do see something suspicious (714) 960-8825.” (@HBPoliceDept)
  2. Whale watchers are in for a treat, we learned Thursday. Referring to the area off Dana Point as a “living aquarium,” there is abundant sea life present. Watchers saw gray whales, fin whales, common and bottlenose dolphins, as well as mink whales. (Patch)
  3. The City announced Friday that Jennifer Carey is the new Public Affairs Manager for HB. “The goal of her position is to create programs and outreach that enhance the community’s understanding and awareness of events, programs, services, policies, and projects.” Previously, Carey was the Public Information Officer for the HBPD. 4. The Westminster PD has uncovered that one of its civilian investigators was paid for time not worked. She was charged “with 15 felonies for lying on her timesheets.” The 26-year-old HB resident “faces a maximum sentence of 12 years and four months in state prison.” In all, she was paid for 566 hours she didn’t spend at her job, which cost the city $12,106.74. 5. The City announced Thursday that its upgrade of several traffic signals should be finished in March or April. Affected intersections are Warner Avenue and Graham Street, Warner Avenue and Nichols Lane, as well as Brookhurst Street and Indianapolis Avenue. Technicians will be “modifying fiber optics, installing new controllers, poles and signal heads.” Also, there will be “illuminated street name signs, pedestrian and bicycle push buttons, new striping, signage, and pedestrian ramps.” (Surf City Break)
