  1. California is one of the few states that offers excellent surfing and snowboarding within just a few hours of each other. Not surprisingly, the Red Bull Switchboard event is going on today, Saturday, in HB. Surfers will be at Golden West & PCH from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. From there, everyone heads to the Bear Mountain Resort for hiding the slopes. (Red Bull)
  2. Skandia Mobile Country Club Update: We have talked in the past about the mobile home park that IPG recently bought for $58 million. “IPG plans to raise rents by $75 for the next three years” while rent for new tenants by 50%. IPG cites the cost of property improvements and high property taxes as reasons for the increases. Tuesday’s report outlines that the tenants have until August to get a rent control measure on the ballot. (KCRW)
  3. Consider heading over to City Hall. A blood drive will go on today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. So far, the organizers were able to schedule 70 appointments for the event. City Councilmember Natalie Moser said that ongoing blood drives will be pushed by the City Council. “We need to let people know about donating. Not just when it’s a crisis, but really educate our community that this is always something we should be doing,” she explained. (Spectrum News 1)
  4. We learned Thursday that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Republic Services reached a $211,250 settlement. CARB asserted that Republic violated air quality regulations with out-of-compliance trucks and missed vehicle self-inspections. Republic will now transfer the settlement money into CARB’s account and “attend a smoke-test training course, submit PSIP tests for the entire applicable fleet for calendar years 2020 and 2021, and comply with the TB Regulation, SWCV Regulation, Off-Road Regulation, PSIP Regulation, and other CARB regulations going forward.” (HB News)
  5. Centered on the Center has been a great success for the HB Art Center. Thursday’s Instagram message shows plenty of red dots, which indicate pieces of art that have been sold. “The best way to support your local arts community is to buy great local art!” The Center even lets you buy art online now!
