  1. Santa Ana HS went on lockdown Thursday after a bomb threat was made at noon. Drivers were urged to stay away from the 500 block of West Walnut Street. The lockdown was lifted at 4:35 p.m. “Students had not been allowed to leave the school, and parents were unable to pick up their children during the investigation.” (KTLA)
  2. The 2022 USA Water Polo National League starts Saturday at Ocean View High School. “Admission is FREE to all matches, with LIVE streaming available at YouTube.com/USAWP.” The season kicks off with Riptide vs USC at 12:20 PM. (Swim Swam)
  3. Newland Street and Yorktown Avenue accident update: On Thursday, we found a petition to have a turn arrow installed with the traffic lights at the intersection. Recently, two teens were killed in an accident involving a city vehicle. “They need to make this intersection and others safer for our community,” the organizer said. (HB News)
  4. Helicopter accident update: On Thursday, the National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report about the helicopter accident that claimed the life of Officer Nicholas Vella. “The helicopter was orbiting about 500 feet above the scene and the pilot had slowed to keep a camera aimed at it when the aircraft suddenly ‘yawed aggressively to the right’, meaning its nose veered in that direction.” Although the pilot attempted a correction to stop the rotation, the helicopter “began to make a spinning descent.” A full investigation “could take 12 to 18 months.” (ABC)
  5. Will grocery store workers at Ralphs and Albertsons/Vons/Pavilions go on strike? A vote will be taken between March 21 and 26. “We are hopeful the union will return to the bargaining table with renewed interest in reaching a balanced agreement,” the VP of Operation for Ralphs said. “We are disheartened to inform you that Ralphs and Albertsons/Vons/Pavilions squandered the unique opportunity to propose a contract with better wages and benefits in a time of immense profit,” the Union representing the workers explained.
