  1. The City intends to host a senior Resource Fair in March. We learned Wednesday that the City Council noticed “that many seniors living within Huntington Beach may be experiencing financial hardships due to increased costs of living.” Therefore, “an item was approved to direct staff and community partners to work together in hosting a senior Resource Fair,” which is supposed to provide “information and resources that may reduce their financial burdens” for older residents. (Surf City Break)
  2. USA BodySurfing’s inaugural contest last week Friday was a success. Competitors enjoyed perfect weather and consistent two-to-four-foot waves. Winners were Meredith Rose (Del Mar) for women over 17, Gabby Bigler (Del Mar) for girls under 18, Greg Wilkinson (Del Mar) for men 45 and over, Wyat Yee (Da Fin Hawaii) for men under 45, and Steven Leste (Las Oladores-Oceanside) for boys under 18. Congratulations! (HB News)
  3. On Wednesday, there was a traffic collision at the intersection of Ellis Ave. and Gothard St. It involved a police officer from the HBPD who was reportedly hurt. The collision happened at 9:15 p.m. (@MFisher1274)
  4. The Orange County Trauma Intervention Program (OC TIP) is looking for a new batch of volunteers. The call went out Monday for individuals who have “a lot of love to give your fellow citizens going through tough times.” You don’t need to have any experience. “Some of the kinds of scenes you will be called to as a TIP volunteer are sudden accidents or deaths, suicides, traffic accidents, or fires, so if you know you won’t be able to handle being around that kind of trauma, this volunteer opportunity isn’t for you.” (Surf City Break)
  5. Safe Beach Day is a new website the City launched Wednesday to benefit beach goers. On the site, you learn about wave strengths and stingray risks. Further, you can find out about wave heights, water temperature, and wind strength. Best of all, you can check the conditions at each lifeguard tower. (Safe Beach Day)
