  1. On Saturday, the HBFD posted photos of a residential structure fire that started “from an unattended pot of oil.” Even though the home had smoke alarms, only one of three kids got out. Thanks to a veteran who was passing by, the other two children were rescued. The FD is using this incident to encourage all residents to “create a home escape plan and practice that plan twice a year.” (huntington_beach_fire)
  2. Edison HS unveiled its new 40-meter pool on Wednesday. It’s been five decades since the school has had this opportunity. Now, this HBUHSD school can “host varsity water polo games for the first time.” (OCDE)
  3. Basilico's Pasta E Vino announced Thursday that it will be open on Sunday. However, there will be “no Superbowl allowed here.” The business is offended with “a league that acts as an agent of the ‘tiny tyrants,’ imposing mask and vax rules.” Other bones of contention include that it “has prohibited symbols of support for our military and police.” (Basilico's Pasta E Vino)
  4. How do you want to see the funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) getting spent? The county invites residents to comment now through March 11. We learned Thursday that it expects to receive “its final 50 percent of its $617 million federal ARPA allocation in May 2022.” (OC Breeze)
  5. The city declared Thursday that it is “commemorating Go Red for Women,” which raises awareness of “cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death for women in the United States.” The city is sponsoring outreach and community education events. It urges women to “prioritize their heart health.” (Surf City Break)
