  1. A sewage spill might have derailed the Surf City Splash part of the event, but the Surfrider Foundation nevertheless put on a great celebration. Helping residents kick off the New Year just right, the sponsors were on hand to make it happen. Zack’s was serving up the pancakes, and title sponsors did not hold back. The Mayor was on hand to greet visitors. (HB Chamber)
  2. If you notice some California National Guard members at your COVID-19 testing facility, don’t worry. Governor Gavin Newsom activated National Guard personnel to assist at Optum Serve sites across the state. There, they will serve residents as “temporary clinical staff while permanent staff is hired.” (Patch)
  3. The Huntington Beach Navigation Center is having an impact. On Monday, the venue posted one of its success stories, involving a woman who spent three years on the streets of HB. An outreach worker connected her with the Center. There, she created financial stability, searched for permanent housing, and after about nine months moved into her new home. (cityofhb)
  4. The cities of Irvine, Fullerton, Buena Park, and Huntington Beach may soon know the electricity rates that the OC Power Authority intends to set. The Authority intends to set its official rates on Tuesday. The initial promise was to “offer power at slightly lower prices than Southern California Edison,” however, there’s no word yet if this is still the plan. (Voice of OC)
  5. Called the “6 Kids No Brains” mountain bike trail, it is a destination for pro-level bikers with equipment to match their expertise. On Friday, a collision occurred on the single-track trail involving two mountain bikers. They had to be airlifted to area hospitals. (News Break)
