1,000 RivCo Dogs In Need Of Forever Homes: Free Adoption Event

The Riverside Department of Animal Services is over capacity at all of its shelters. Saturday, they hope to change that.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA—The Riverside County Department of Animal Services is hosting a free dog adoption event on Saturday, where all owner impound fees will be waived, according to a recent release.

The event was slated to run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at all Riverside County Department of Animal Services Campuses.

"We have over 1,000 dogs between our shelters and are way beyond capacity," they said. The doors will open promptly at 10 a.m.

At the San Jacinto Shelter, the newest animal shelter run by the Department of Animal Services, a litter of seven-week-old German Shepherd Mix puppies is available.

According to the shelter, "they were brought to the shelter in early April." All are available for adoption.

  • Adoptions are first come, first served unless more than one adopter arrives at the shelter at the same time on the morning that the pet is available.
  • If one animal has multiple adoption interests, a drawing will be conducted during the first 15 minutes after the shelter opens. Adopters must be present to participate, and only one representative from each family can enter.

Blythe Animal Shelter: 245 S. Carlton, Blythe (Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

Things to know:

If you're not sure if you have found your forever friend, there is an opportunity to take a pet home on a "foster field trip" at no charge. "A foster parent gets priority for adopting the animal they've fostered," they say.
