HIGHLAND, CA — Two men are dead after a crash on Interstate 210 culminated in a deadly gun battle over the weekend.

The two deceased were identified as Jonathan McConnell, 38, of Corona, and Aaron Harris, 37, of Highland.

The incident began when McConnell was riding his motorcycle on I-210 just before 8 p.m. Saturday, July 27, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

McConnell split lanes and crashed into a sedan driven by Harris. Harris's two children, ages 2 and 5, were in the car, the department said.

McConnell did not immediately stop, and instead rode to a parking lot — Joy’s Lounge at 27141 Baseline Street in Highland — where he met up with friends.

Harris had followed McConnell off the freeway and into the lot. Harris stopped his car and shouted threats at McConnell, the department continued.

The motorcyclist approached the sedan and Harris fired a gun at him. McConnell, who was also armed, returned fire, the agency said.

Both men were sent to a local hospital but died from their injuries.

Harris's children were uninjured. A man in the parking lot was hit in the hand by the gunfire and was expected to survive. No other injuries were reported.
