LAKE ELSINORE, CA — More pickleball courts are coming to Lake Elsinore.

An agreement to construct four courts at Serenity Park and three at Alberhill Ranch Community Park is expected to be approved during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

The agreement with Canyon Lake-based Cotter Construction will not exceed $262,500, according to city documents.

Pickleball is a racket sport involving a paddle and a hollow, hard plastic ball with holes in it. Because the ball is non-rubber, pickleball play can be noisy for nearby neighbors.

Regardless, demand for the sport is high in Lake Elsinore, according to the city.

City documents show that construction of the new courts will not involve utilizing existing park amenities, such as tennis or basketball courts. Instead, Cotter will excavate sod, compact the dirt and seal it with a vapor barrier, lay rebar and pour concrete. The courts will be coated with acrylic; new fencing will surround the play areas; and nets, posts and center straps will be installed.

The project did go out to bid. Cotter was the least expensive; the highest bid came in at just over $800,000.

Construction is expected to begin this summer.

Alberhill Ranch Community Park is located at 28200 Lake Street. Serenity Park is located at 19685 Palomar Street.
