Brush Fires Burn Across Riverside County, Nearly 2,000 Acres Charred

There are reports of structures destroyed and evacuation orders.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Vegetation fires burned across Riverside County over the weekend and several large blazes are not contained.

The biggest has been the Eagle Fire, which as of 7 a.m. Monday had charred 1,609 acres near the intersection of Cajalco and Eagle Canyon Roads, east of Corona, Cal Fire reported.

The blaze was 50 percent contained, according to the agency's Monday morning report.

Evacuations were ordered, but the orders were downgraded to warnings Sunday night.

The fire ignited at approximately 2:02 p.m. Sunday and quickly spread despite firefighter efforts on the ground and air.

No injuries were reported.

Other blazes include the Hawarden Fire that as of Monday morning had charred 527 acres and was 20 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.

According to a morning report from city of Riverside Fire Department, which is the lead agency on the blaze, three structures were destroyed and four damaged in the fire.

There were no reports of civilian injuries, but one firefighter sustained minor injuries.

The blaze broke out around 1:05 p.m. Sunday in the Hawarden neighborhood of Riverside. Evacuations were ordered along Eagle Crest Court and Chartwell Drive; Horace Street and Hawarden Drive; Golden Hills; and in the area of Barry Road and Via Vista, moving toward Trautwein Road and Alessandro Boulevard.

Another blaze was reported at 8:14 Monday at Columbia and Michigan avenues, east of the unincorporated community of Highgrove.

Dubbed the Columbia Fire, the blaze has consumed 50 acres with zero containment, according to Cal Fire.

There was no word on the cause of any of the fires.
