Former Lake Elsinore City Council Member Daryl Hickman Dead At 81

Hickman served Lake Elsinore for nearly two decades and is remembered for his positive outlook and support of local youth.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A former Lake Elsinore City Council member who served in his post for 17 years and was a steadfast supporter of local youth has died.

Daryl Hickman passed away peacefully at his Lake Elsinore Tuscany Hills home Saturday. He was 81. A cause of death was not provided.

Hickman was first elected to the City Council on November 6, 2001, and served until 2018. He also served as the city's mayor from 2007 to 2008.

“We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Mr. Hickman, who faithfully served our community for nearly two decades,” Lake Elsinore Mayor Timothy J. Sheridan said. “Daryl was a respected and dedicated public servant. He was also a very nice man and he will be truly missed.”

When Hickman left public office in December 2018, he described his time on the City Council as one of the most rewarding experiences of his life. During his time serving the city, Hickman represented Lake Elsinore on several regional and local boards including the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority, the Riverside Transit Agency, the Southwest Cities Coalition, Northwest Mosquito and Vector Control District, and the Lake Elsinore/San Jacinto Watershed Authority.

At the end of his last term, Hickman served as Lake Elsinore’s International Mayor, engaging in foreign business relations to encourage new investment in the community and region, according to the city.

Hickman was known for his positive outlook and support of local youth. His service with community groups and events included an annual holiday toy drive and Santa visits at the Head Start programs in the Lake Elsinore Unified School District. He also participated in the Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Merchants Association, United Way, Lake Elsinore Valley Education Foundation, and he supported his wife, Amy, in her role with the Elsinore Woman’s Club.

“Daryl was a loving husband and friend, whose extreme passion and love for the city of Lake
Elsinore remained steadfast until the end,” Amy Hickman said. “He took pride in this community and was honored he was able to serve the residents alongside so many other talented and esteemed leaders.”

Born on June 3, 1940, Hickman is survived by his wife of 26 years, Amy; his sons, Todd and Will; daughter-in-law, Jennifer; and two grandsons, Julian and Noah.

Hickman will be cremated and laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Funeral services have
not been determined, but the family is planning a celebration of life in the coming months, according to the city.

The Lake Elsinore City Council will be honoring Hickman at its next meeting on Tuesday, February 22, at 7 p.m., at the Lake Elsinore Cultural Center.
