Horse Dies After Being Swarmed By Bees In Riverside County

Three other horses and two people survived the swarm.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — One horse is dead, while two people and three other equines are recuperating after being swarmed by bees.

The incident was reported in the 9500 block of 52nd Street in Jurupa Valley at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9.

According to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson Tawny Cabral, crews were called to the address and found the bees swarming the victims and their animals.

The humans were quickly rescued from the swarm. Their injuries were described as serious to moderate. Cabral said both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Firefighters used a mix of foam and water to spray the bees in an attempt to get them away from the horses, Cabral said.

Sadly, one horse died due to the number of bee stings it received. The other three equines were treated by a veterinarian at the scene.
