Lake Elsinore Hiking Trails Reopen Due To Decreased Fire Danger

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Hiking trails previously closed in Lake Elsinore have reopened, according to a recent news release from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. A total of six hiking areas across Riverside County that had been closed due to heightened fire danger were reopened Monday.

Fire Chief Bill Weiser has approved the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to immediately reopen Eagle Canyon/Tin Mine east of Corona, Steel Peak north of Lake Elsinore, Bautista Canyon southeast of Hemet, North Mountain south of Banning, Whitewater Canyon east of Cabazon and Ramona Bowl south of Hemet.

Each of those hiking areas closed earlier this year due to wildfire threats; however, recent rain and milder temperatures allowed for their reopening, according to the statement released by Cal Fire.

"It's gratifying to announce the reopening of Riverside County's scenic locations for unrestricted access," Weiser wrote. "However, I urge visitors to stay alert and conscientious about the risk of wildland fires."

According to the fire department, the county reserves the right to implement future closures based on weather conditions, fuel moisture, and increased fire threat.
