Lake Elsinore Man Dies in Homemade Plane Crash

The plane hit a cell phone tower near Lake Matthews Sunday. A female passenger was ejected from the plane and sustained moderate injuries.

The Riverside County coroner’s office released the name of the man killed when a small plane crashed into a cell phone tower near Lake Matthews.

He was 55-year-old William Dalo of Lake Elsinore, according to the coroner’s office.

Firefighters responded to the downed aircraft in the 20300 block of Farley Avenue, east of Corona off Cajalco Road, at 12:14 p.m. Sunday, said Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.

The homemade plane crashed into a cell tower and much of the wreckage became entangled in the structure, Hagemann said. A woman was ejected from the plane and sustained moderate injuries. She was taken to a hospital.

The National Transportation Safety Board was investigating the crash, the coroner’s office said.
