Lake Elsinore Man ID'd As Victim In Fatal Lakeland Village Crash

The 75-year-old man apparently lost control of his SUV and slammed into a tree in a residential front yard.

LAKELAND VILLAGE, CA — A motorist killed Monday in a fiery Lakeland Village solo-vehicle crash was identified by the coroner as a 75-year-old Lake Elsinore man.

Darryl Oldfield was pronounced dead at the scene minutes after the 3:30 p.m. crash on northbound Grand Avenue, just south of Blanche Drive.

Oldfield apparently lost control of his SUV and slammed into a tree in a residential front yard.

The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire, and good Samaritans tried to douse the flames.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department arrived and contained the blaze. Oldfield was found dead in the burned-out vehicle.
