LAKE ELSINORE, CA — The popularity of In-N-Out Burger in Lake Elsinore has prompted the fast food chain to open a second location in the city.

During the Oct. 17 Lake Elsinore Planning Commission meeting, the commissioners voted 5-0 to approve permits related to the development project slated for Dexter Avenue, between Crane and Allan streets.

The 3,887-square-foot eatery will include a two-lane drive-thru with 31 queuing spaces, and the restaurant will be accessed by "one full-movement driveway on Allan Street and two full-movement driveways on Crane Street," according to city documents.

Additionally, the project includes a 45-foot-tall In-N-Out Burger sign that will be visible from Interstate 15, the documents show.

Lake Elsinore has an In-N-Out location at 331 Railroad Canyon Road, just east of Interstate 15 at Summerhill Drive. The Dexter Avenue site will mark the sixth In-N-Out in Southwest Riverside County.

On Sept. 28, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 1228, which sets a $20 minimum wage for fast-food workers starting on April 1, 2024. Many In-N-Out Burger locations in California already pay that as an entry wage.

The In-N-Out project is part of a development that also includes a separate 10,241-square-foot multi-tenant commercial building at the 2.29-acre Dexter Avenue site. City documents show the project will feature a total of 126 parking spaces. The project applicant is Robert Lewis, Pacific Development Group II.

During the Nov. 14 Lake Elsinore City Council meeting, the council members are expected to receive and file the Planning Commission's Oct. 17 approval on the project.
