Recent Centennial High Graduate Scores Seven Points In FIBA Tournament

CORONA, CA — The U.S. will play Puerto Rico Tuesday in its second game of the FIBA U18 Americas Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina, one day after recent Centennial High School graduate Londynn Jones had seven points and six assists in an 81-29 victory over Colombia.

The U.S. scored the game's first 11 points and led 20-7 at the end of the first quarter, 34-18 at halftime and 54-20 after three quarters in the Group B preliminary round game.
Center Isueh "Ice" Brady scored a game-high 17 points. KiKi Rice, who like Jones has signed with UCLA, was the other American in double figures with 16 and had a game-high seven assists.

The U.S. scored the game's first 11 points and led 20-7 at the end of the first quarter, 34-18 at halftime and 54-20 after three quarters in the Group B preliminary round game.

The Americans made 27 of 71 shots (38%), four of 13 3-point shots (30.8%) and 23 of 33 free throws (69.7%).

Colombia made 10 of 67 shots (14.9%), one of 24 3-point shots (4.2%) and eight of 16 free throws (50%).

The U.S. scored 31 points off Colombia's 21 turnovers.

"We did some things really well and it was nice to get the first one under our belt," U.S. coach Joni Taylor said. "We've been practicing a lot and it felt good to get out into competition.

Colombia did some good things and challenged us on the boards. We buckled down in the second half and got some rebounds and attacked the glass. We shared the ball well and were strong defensively."

The victory was the 60th in 62 games for the U.S. in FIBA women's under-18 competitions dating back to 1988.
Marta Moscarella, a 5-foot-11-inch, 14-year-old shooting guard, led Colombia with six.

Puerto Rico defeated El Salvador, 65-44, in its opener Monday.

Tuesday's preliminary round game is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time and will be streamed at YouTube.com/FIBA

Players in the tournament must be born on or after Jan. 1, 2004.
