'You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown' Heading To Lake Elsinore Stage

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A stage show based on Charles M. Schulz's beloved "Peanuts" comic strip will be performed this month by students at Temescal Canyon High School, and the production promises laughs for the whole family.

"You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown" runs May 12-14 and again May 19-21 at the campus's Jeanie Corral Performing Arts Centre, 28755 El Toro Road, Lake Elsinore. Curtain time is 7 p.m. each night.

The revue will feature songs and vignettes with the whole Peanuts gang: Lucy, Schroeder, Sally,Linus, Snoopy, and of course Charlie Brown.

The original production of "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" won both the Drama Desk Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award when it was first presented Off-Broadway in 1967. The musical was revived on Broadway in 1999 as "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Revised)" and ran for 149 performances at the Ambassador Theatre with award-winning performances by Roger Bart and Kristin Chenoweth as Snoopy and Sally, respectively.

In TVHS's revised version, with additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and dialogue by Michael Mayer, "the sweet, joyful innocence" of the Peanuts gang is maintained, but "a fresh reexamination and playfulness is revealed," according to the show's director Tara Abell. "The script features new songs, particularly funny dialogue, and new, catchy orchestrations.

“This is the Temescal Canyon’s first musical in two years," Abell continued. "With only three students in the show having ever performed in a TCHS production before, most of this diverse cast will be making their stage debut with this production. Despite all the newcomers, it’s one of the most diligent casts I have ever worked with — ever. They have made every rehearsal a joy, just like elementary school recess. These kids are having a blast with each other and it’s obvious. You can’t help but be caught up in the fun! This light-hearted musical is exactly what we need right now."
