5-Year-Old, Mother Die In Fiery Crash: Police

A young girl and her mother were killed when their car hit a tree. A man remains in critical condition.

LIVERMORE, CA — A five-year-old child and 24-year-old woman were killed in a fiery car wreck Sunday in Livermore, according to the Livermore Police Department. A 25-year-old man is in critical condition as of Monday evening.

On Sunday just before 2:30 a.m., Livermore police responded to a report that a car had crashed at South Vasco Road near Naylor Street. Officers found a car fully engulfed in flames. Crews were able to pull the man and child out of the car, who were transported to the hospital. The child succumbed to her injuries, and the 24-year-old woman died at the scene, police said.

All three victims were from Manteca, police said. The two adults were dating, and were with their child.

After the intersection, the car traveled off the roadway and crashed into a tree for unknown reasons. Investigators believe the fire was caused by the impact of the crash.

Police say it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role. The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau will soon release the identities of the victims.
