Livermore High Student Arrested For Threatening Campus Violence

LIVERMORE, CA -- A Livermore High School student has been arrested for threatening "to cause harm" on campus, according to Dr. Kelly Bowers, the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District Superintendent of Schools.

In a statement provided Thursday morning to Patch, Bowers explained that the school district received word Wednesday evening that a Livermore High student "made an alarming statement to other students, threatening to cause harm on our LHS campus."

The concerning exchange was immediately reported to the LHS administration, Livermore Police Department, and the superintendent's office in order for an investigation to be conducted, while a threat assessment protocol was activated, according to Bowers.

"Thanks to the thorough and swift response of the investigating officers who worked throughout the night, an arrest has been made," Bowers said. "The individual who made the remarks remains in custody and we are confident that any possible threat has been neutralized."

School and activities have proceeded as usual without interruption, however, an increased police presence was on campus Thursday morning, Patch's Courtney Teague reported. Bowers said the presence was an added precautionary measure, and "to provide visible reassurance" to students and staff, as well as parents.

"We commend the students who came forward in keeping with our “See Something, Hear Something, Say Something” mantra to ensure our high school campus remains a safe and secure place for all students and all staff at all times," Bowers said. "And as always, we appreciate our strong partnership with the Livermore Police Department and acknowledge them for their professionalism and extra care taken."
