LIVERMORE, CA — A 50-acre fire burned at I-580 and Flynn Road near the Altamont Pass.

The fire broke out at around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday next to I-580 on Altamont Pass on the eastbound side of the road, just west of North Flynn Road. At 8:15, the CHP reported that the fire was approximately a mile long and is being fought at multiple locations along that stretch. Forward progress was stopped at around 8:15 a.m., according to Cal Fire. The fire was about 75% contained as of 10:30 a.m.

Mop up began at 8:57 a.m., according to the Alameda County Fire Department, and was mostly complete by 11 a.m.

A Severe Traffic Alert has cleared as of 5:30 p.m., but heavy traffic remains in the eastbound lane, according to 511.org.

There are no reports of injuries or structural damages, according to Cal Fire and ACFD.

The fire sparked early on a day when the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory. Temps in the interior East Bay will approach 100 degrees on Tuesday. The Central Valley will see triple digits.

The first call about the fire was received at 7:47 a.m. At 7:49 it was reported that the "mountain was on fire" and by 8:15 the fire was a mile long. At 9:28 a.m., the CHP reported that it hopes to have the freeway completely reopened in about 3 hours.

Multiple fires have broken out in this immediate area over the past week, including a 44-acre fire Saturday, and the Corral Fire. Two Alameda County Fire Department firefighters were injured battling the flames.
