Man Arrested For Murder At LAX After Belmont Shore Stabbing: LBPD

LONG BEACH, CA — A 29-year-old Huntington Beach man was arrested Monday on suspicion of fatally stabbing a man during at fight at Dave's Hot Chicken in Belmont Shore, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The suspect, Brandon Nguyen, was located Monday at LAX and booked on suspicion of murder. He's being held without bail, police said.

The stabbing occurred Sunday afternoon at the 5246 2nd St. restaurant, when officers responded to a report of a stabbing and found a man suffering from a wound to his upper body, police said.

The victim, a 20-year-old Long Beach man, was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said. The victim's name has not yet been released.

Police said "two groups of subjects" were involved in the fight and during the fight Nguyen stabbed the victim. The people involved fled the scene, according to police.

“We will not tolerate acts of violence in our community and we will commit all available resources to ensuring that those responsible for crimes like this are held accountable,” Police Chief Wally Hebeish said. “Within a matter of minutes, our officers were there to render medical aid and secure the scene. In addition, Homicide detectives responded to the scene and worked around the clock with our Special Investigations Division to identify, locate, and safely apprehend the person believed responsible for this crime.”

Police say they expect to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office for filing consideration later this week.

In response to the stabbing, the Belmont Shore Business Association and District 3 Councilwoman Kristina Duggan requested heightened police presence in the area, just one of a number of changes put in place in the neighborhood after the crime.
