Martinez Election Results: Mayor, City Council, Measure K

MARTINEZ, CA — The polls closed at 8 p.m. here in Martinez, with voters choosing a mayor, city council members and a school board member, and voting on a school bond measure. In addition, there were countywide and California races, along with seven statewide propositions on the ballot.

There were 701,969 registered voters in Contra Costa County as of Oct. 24, with 53.77 percent registered as Democrats, 22.21 percent choosing no party preference, and 18.14 percent registered as Republicans.

It was a close race for Martinez mayor, according to unofficial Election Night results released at 10:32 p.m. by the Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder-Registrar. Among six candidates, Lara Delaney had a narrow lead with 24.55 percent (2,142 votes) while Brianne Zorn had 22.38 percent (1,953 votes), Sean Trambley had 21.46 percent (1,873 votes), Mike Menesini had 14.46 percent (1,262 votes), Mark Ross 11.87 percent (1,036 votes) and Michael Ayers had 5.27 percent (460 votes).

In the race for Martinez City Council District 1, Jay Howard led with 58.85 percent (1,004 votes) while Nakenya Allen garnered 41.15 percent (702 votes), the early results showed.

It was a closer race for Martinez City Council District 4: Debbie McKillop had 51.30 percent (1,286 votes) while Ben Therriault had 48.70 percent (1,221 votes), according to unofficial Election Night results released at 10:32 p.m.

As for Martinez Unified School District Measure K, which would allow the district to issue $90 million in bonds that would be paid back by an annual property tax levy of $39 per $100,000 of assessed value, early results showed it garnered 50.37 percent Yes votes (3,383) to 49.63 No votes (3,333). The measure requires 55 percent of votes to pass.
