Alleged Airport Drug Smuggler Caught During TSA Screening At SFO

A passenger bound for Australia was arrested at the San Francisco International Airport after his luggage was flagged at a TSA checkpoint.

MILLBRAE, CA — A Los Angeles man was arrested at the San Francisco International Airport after he was caught attempting to smuggle a large amount of methamphetamine through security, according to San Mateo County authorities.

The sheriff's office alleges Jauan Manuel Paz-Guzman, 23, was carrying two suitcases stuffed with six kilograms of meth when his luggage was flagged during a routine TSA screening on June 27. According to investigators, Paz-Guzman was on his way to board a flight to Australia, where he intended to smuggle the drugs.

TSA agents reported the discovery and officers with San Mateo County's narcotics task force responded to the airport to take over the investigation. Paz-Guzman was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of transporting methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and burglary.
