This year marks the 41st anniversary of the film festival. The event kicked off on Thursday, Oct. 4, with two powerhouse dramas: “A Private War,” Matthew Heineman’s film about the celebrated war correspondent Marie Colvin, starring Rosamund Pike — and — “Green Book,” Peter Farrelly’s road-trip movie about two polar opposites traveling the deep south, starring Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen.

Throughout the 11-day film festival, a series of tributes and spotlights celebrates exceptional artists including Carey Mulligan, Paul Dano, Alfonso Cuaron, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Amandla Stenberg, Joel Edgerton, Karyn Kusama, Richard E. Grant, and Pawel Pawlikowski.
