2019 Mill Valley Film Festival: Photos And More Highlights
See Kristen Stewart, Olivia Wilde, Jamie Foxx and Robert Pattinson walk the red carpet. Plus, more highlights from the 42nd MVFF.
MILL VALLEY, CA — Now in its 42nd edition, the Mill Valley Film Festival has prospered from a three-day community-oriented cinephile gathering to an 11-day cinema-packed event, attracting some of today’s world-renown and award-winning filmmakers, actors — and their die-hard fans.
Famous for its intimate urban setting and international ambience, the fest prides itself with a reputation for launching artistic new cinematic works from around the world and creating awards season buzz.
This year, the film fest kicked off the festivities on Thursday, Oct. 3, with a powerful true-life courtroom drama, “Just Mercy,” Destin Daniel Cretton’s film about the celebrated public defender Bryan Stevenson and one of his most incendiary cases, starring Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx and Brie Larson.

The fest also places a high emphasis on its series of tributes and spotlights to honor the best in the cinematic world, including Alfre Woddard, Kristin Stewart, Olivia Wilde, Robert Pattinson, Laura Dern, Noah Baumbach, Barbara Rush, and Michael Apted.
A pair of dramas will close the film fest on Sunday, Oct. 13: “Ford V Ferrarri,” James Mangold’s high-speed biopic about the 1966 “24 Hours of Le Mans” endurance race, starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon — and — “Motherless Brooklyn,” Edward Norton’s crime-drama about a detective living with Tourette syndrome, starring Bruce Willis, Gugu MBathaw-Raw and Willem Dafoe.
