MILL VALLEY, CA — Forecasted heavy rain could trigger flash flooding in some areas of Marin County Friday afternoon into Saturday morning, when another storm rolls into the North Bay region, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency issued a flash flood watch for the interior valleys and mountains of the North Bay from 4 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday. Communities within the Kincade Fire burn area in northern Sonoma County, as well as those downstream, are impacted.

The flash flood watch applies to parts of Marin, Napa and Sonoma. Areas that could experience flooding include the cities of Angwin, Lagunitas-Forest Knolls, Napa, Novato, Petaluma, Rohnert Park, San Rafael, Santa Rosa, South Santa Rosa and Woodacre, according to the NWS.

"Steadier rain will develop Friday afternoon and continue into the weekend," weather officials said. "Excessive rain rates and rainfall amounts Friday and Friday night from 2 to 4 inches may trigger flash flooding over the burn area."

The Kincade Fire started Oct. 23 near The Geysers and burned more than 77,000 acres from Geyserville to Windsor.

Residents were encouraged to monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
