It's Not To Late To Nominate For Open Mill Valley City Council Seat

MILL VALLEY, CA — Want to serve on Mill Valley City Council? It's not too late to nominate yourself or someone else for the one open seat scheduled to be decided in a special election scheduled for March 5.

Nominations Close Friday for the seat which was vacated by Councilmember Sashi Sabaratnam who tendered her resignation effective Aug. 2, 2022, due to a move to the Santa Rosa area.

In September, Mill Valley City Council opted to leave a decision as to who would replace Sabaratnam up to the voters and called for a special election to select someone to fill the remainder of her term that expires in March 2024. The seat will be up for election for a full year term in the June 4, 2024 election, the city said.

Candidates for City Council must reside within Mill Valley City Limits, be at least 18 years of age, and a registered voter in the City of Mill Valley when nomination papers are issued.

If no one is nominated for the seat before 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9,the nomination periodwould be extended to Dec. 14, the city said.
