The Mill Valley City Council is seeking to fill an unscheduled vacancy on the Arts Commission. The term will run from the date of appointment to February 28, 2023, where at that time the chosen applicant will be able to reapply for a new three year term.

The Arts Commission is five-member advisory Commission to the City Council which enhances the cultural life of the community by promoting and fostering the visual and performing arts in Mill Valley and encourages the efforts of local artists.

Some of the Commission's various duties include: promoting/sponsoring exhibits, and theater and music performances within the City of Mill Valley; making art more visible in the community; coordinating the joint sponsorship of art events with other organizations; promoting arts awareness in Mill Valley through interacting with local newspapers, cable TV, and radio; sponsoring exhibits by local artists in the City Council Chambers and the Mill Valley Community Center; creating a public arts program including the temporary and permanent installation of art works on public and private property; and implementing General Plan goals and programs as directed by City Council. Staff support of the Arts Commission is provided by the Recreation Department led by the City's Arts & Recreation Director. Three members of the Commission may reside outside of the Mill Valley City limits, but within the boundaries of the Mill Valley School District. At this time the City is recruiting for applicants that reside within the boundaries of the City of Mill Valley and the Mill Valley School District. All applicants shall be individuals with a demonstrated interest and knowledge of the Arts. Commission meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the second floor conference room of the Mill Valley Community Center, 180 Camino Alto, Mill Valley, CA.
