Mill Valley Heat Advisory In Effect Amid Heat Wave

MILL VALLEY, CA — A heat advisory is in effect Monday in Mill Valley as a heat wave is expected to last through at least Wednesday across the San Francisco Bay Area.

The heat advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. Monday in the North Bay interior valleys, San Francisco Bay shoreline and Santa Cruz mountains.

"Elevated heat will increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly among vulnerable populations and those working outdoors or in areas without air conditioning," weather officials said.

High temperatures Monday are expected in the the upper 80s to upper 90s near the coast, while highs are predicted in the low 100s for areas more than 20 miles from the coast, according to the National Weather Service.

To stay safe during the heat wave, weather officials urged residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. Children and pets should be never be left unattended in a vehicle, with car interiors able to "reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes," officials said.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location, officials advised. Call 911 immediately for heat-related illness.
