MILL VALLEY, CA — First responders will host Marin County's 14th annual "Sidewalk CPR" event this month, teaching lifesaving skills to neighbors of all ages at more than a dozen locations across the county.

The free event will demonstrate how to properly perform hands-only CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), administer the overdose reversal drug Narcan and stop the bleeding from a serious injury.

According to the county, data from the Marin County EMS Agency showed nearly 90 percent of residents who experienced cardiac arrest outside of a medical facility last year did not survive. Being equipped with the skills taught at these events can make a vital difference, and increase the chance of survival by 60 percent when CPR is administered immediately after cardiac arrest.
